This is the first state fair I’ve ever entered, it it was a fascinating lesson in the bureaucracy of crafts. I have no idea about the judging, but getting my doily in and out was a trial.

Anyway, here is the doily I entered, and received second place.

State Fair DoilyThe judge’s comments were: “Please use finer thread. Very consistent stitches. The twisted picots are delightful. This jovial pattern needs more vibrant colors. Please experiment with one shuttle of variegated thread and another of a coordinating solid color. —Z”

State Fair Doily CloseupThe pattern is from the book Tatting from Burda, made in size 10 thread and measures about 40 cm across.

I hope to enter again next year, and already have an idea of what doily I would like to make; one I have been thinking about for some time.
